Advanced email features, limitations, and best practices for email blasts
Once you are comfortable creating 1-1 and blast emails, there are a few extra features and limitations worth knowing about to get the most out of your communications.
Adding images to email blasts
- Click on the image icon in the content editor (pictured below).
- A popup will appear. Click the Upload link, then either use Browse for an image or drag and drop your chosen file.
- Once uploaded, some basic details of the image will auto-populate in the General section (such as source URL and dimensions).

Image tips
- Resize your images to the correct display size before uploading to avoid distorted formatting.
- For the best results across browsers and email clients, use a maximum width of 600px.
File attachments on email blasts
SupporterBase does not support attachments on bulk emails, and neither do most email tools (like NationBuilder, MailChimp, or Campaign Monitor). Sending attachments to large lists is a major trigger for spam filters.
Best practice
Instead of attachments, upload your file to a cloud service (Google Drive, Dropbox, etc.) and then add a hyperlink in your email text or an image/button linking to that file. You can insert links via the link icon in the content editor toolbar.

Handling recipients on scheduled blasts
When scheduling an email or SMS blast, your recipient list is finalised at the time of sending, not when you schedule it. This means:
| Blast type | Behaviour |
|---|---|
| Blasts to event RSVPs | Any new RSVPs who sign up after you schedule the blast will still be included when it sends. |
| Blasts to group members | The list will include the latest group members as of the send time. |
| Blasts via filters | The system will refresh the filter criteria right before sending, so only those who currently match the filter will receive the blast. |
This dynamic updating ensures that your scheduled messages always go to the most up-to-date audience.
Email blast templates
Currently, SupporterBase does not support custom email templates. The only part of the default template that can be customised is the footer (via Settings > Configurations > Mailers, under "Email Footer HTML").
Custom template support is on the roadmap for potential future development. If this is a priority for your organisation, let us know. Customer feedback directly shapes which features we prioritise.
Custom group email senders
Admins can set a custom email sender name for each group. This means each group can have their own unique email address, as long as the domain stays the same (e.g. localgroup1@yourorganisation.com.au, localgroup2@yourorganisation.com.au).
- Toggle the setting via Settings > Configurations > Allow admins to configure a different sender email for each group.
- Once toggled on, edit group sender emails via More actions > Set group sender email.
